More outstanding news - two previous critics of Operation Iraqi Freedom have just returned from Iraq and written a new report, "A War We Just Might Win."

Michael O'Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack, of the liberal-oriented Brookings Institute, wrote a piece in the New York Times that has opponents of the mission in Iraq in a state of shock and dismay:

"Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration's miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily "victory" but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with."

As the media has reported today, this sets the stage for a major showdown in Washington, D.C. on September 15th when the report on "the surge" by Gen. David Petraeus is to be delivered to Congress.

Car Crashes at Nuclear Weapons Plant

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) – A driver ran a checkpoint at a nuclear weapons plant early Monday and crashed into a barrier, then fled on foot, authorities said.

Guards at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, a primary storehouse for bomb-grade uranium, said the man “appeared to be impaired in some way” when they stopped him around 5 a.m. at a security checkpoint near a rear entrance, spokesman Bill Wilburn said.

“We commend the NYPD for its appropriate handling of this case,” said CAIR-NY Civil Rights Coordinator Aliya Latif. “We must all be concerned when any actions cross the line from protected free speech to acts designed to intimidate. Just as there is a difference between someone burning a cross in their own backyard and burning that same cross in the yard of an African-American family, there is a difference between desecrating a religious text in a private setting and doing so in a setting that will create a hostile learning environment.”

She said that one of the desecrated Qurans was reportedly taken from Pace’s interfaith meditation room.

Since October, five hate incidents targeting the Muslim community have been documented on the Pace campus, including the words “F— Islam” written in a hallway. Muslim students have even reported to CAIR-NY that they transferred out of the university because of the hostile atmosphere created by these incidents.

Latif said CAIR-NY will continue to work with Pace’s MSA and the Association of Muslim American Lawyers (AMAL) to promote tolerance on the Pace campus.

But from the links provided above by CAIR I read this little piece of info:

Freedom of Speech vs. Hate Crime

Freedom of speech is protected by the federal Constitution. Anyone has the right to express their likes, dislikes and opinions, no matter how offensive it may be to others.

This freedom of expression, however, can cause some confusion as to where free speech ends and hate crime begins. Although the line may appear to be blurred, it boils down to this: Offensive or hateful speech is still just speech and is protected. However, a hate or bias crime is a criminal act that is motivated by hate.

So at best Mr. Stanislav Shmulevich could be charged of destruction of property most likely valued somewhere from $99.99 to $1.00 U.S.Dollars, after taxes. Hardly a “Hate Crime”!

I do not condone Mr. Stanislav Shmulevich actions, but I do support him against unconstitutional charges of a “Hate Crime”!

All too many of the people who stand in the way of tough policies against illegal immigration either ignore or do not understand the connection to public safety, security, and the well-being of local communities.

COMMENTARY:

We are constantly bombarded in the mainstream media (MSM) with tear-jerking stories about how the illegal aliens among us, who have entered America by the millions in violation of our immigration laws, are just trying to make a better life for themselves. Criminals are also trying to make a better life for themselves, but we don’t see any sob stories in the MSM about them!

In fact, the MSM seems to go out of its way to hide criminal activity committed by illegal aliens. Here in Wisconsin, it’s no secret that the vast majority of Hispanic/Latino residents are residing here illegally. In my area, their population has doubled in the past five years, because the mantra here is “Celebrate Diversity!”

When a crime is reported in the local newspaper, committed by someone with an obviously Hispanic/Latino name, no mention is made of the culprit’s immigration status. When I phoned the local police station, to ask about statistics relating to crimes committed by illegal aliens, I was told that they don’t keep such statistics. When I asked why not, I was told that they were not asked to do that, when filing crime reports at the state level.

I went to the next level and contacted the state law enforcement authorities in Madison, in order to pursue my inquiry there. It turned out that they didn’t gather information on crimes committed by illegal aliens, either, because it wasn’t requested by federal authorities.

In fact, they no longer collected data on crimes committed by Hispanics/Latinos, because that had been determined to be an ethnic group, not a racial group. Hispanics/Latinos were now counted as whites. The other racial group classifications are black, Asian, and native American Indian. (I couldn’t help thinking that people way up the law enforcement organizational chart must have decided they want that kind of information buried.)

Fortunately, a number of congressmen requested that the General Accountability Office (GAO) investigate and report information on criminal aliens incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails. The resulting GAO report, published in April 2005, revealed that illegal aliens make up 27% of the prison population. (The oft-cited figure of 12 million illegal aliens in the country means that they make up just 4% of the general population.)

Since illegal aliens are unlikely to be committing white-collar crimes, that figure likely underestimates the amount of violent crime committed by illegal aliens. Using the GAO report, Representative Steve King of Iowa points out that 25 Americans, on average, are killed by illegal aliens every day (about evenly split between motor vehicle accidents and outright murder).

Do the math: That works out to more than 9,000 deaths per year, or more than 36,000 deaths over the past four years. That’s more than ten times the number of Americans killed in Iraq over the past four years!

Oddly, I’ve seen people in my hometown protesting against the war in Iraq, but I’ve never seen anyone protesting against the illegal alien invasion that is killing tens of thousands of Americans right here on our own soil.

Teams of computer hackers sanctioned by California Secretary of State Debra Bowen were able to hack without difficulty into various vendors’ touch-screen voting machines during a “top to bottom review” of every system certified by the state, according to a University of California study released yesterday.

The report concluded the machines could be manipulated using “tools that can be found in a typical office and could be executed by a very low-skilled attacker.”

Felonies!!! For putting a book in a toilet???

LGF has reported they received an email from Stanislav Shmulevich, who was arrested for allegedly putting a Qur’an into a toilet in one of Pace University’s restrooms.

According to LGF’s website, Stanislav Shmulevich can not be qualified for a public defender to defend himself from these outrageous and unconstitutional charges.

I hope this case gets it’s due course, and is thrown out of the courtroom and Mr. Stanislav Shmulevich is free to go, just as is should be done! But if this needs to go to trial, we need to be ready to set up a fund for his defense to help the guy from these unconstitutional charges that are taking our constitutional rights away from us like a chisel chipping away at a stone, small piece by small piece.
